DEPRESSION: A SHADOW OF DEATH


Depression is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feeling of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed.

Globally, more than 300 million people of all ages suffer from depression.

Causes:
• Genetics
• Biological - changes in neurotransmitters levels
• Environmental
• Psychological and Social (psychosocial)

Symptoms of depression
• Feeling sad or having depressed mood
• Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed
• Changes in apetite - weight loss or gain unrelated to dieting
• Trouble sleeping or sleeping too much
• Loss of energy or increased fatigue

• Increase in purposeless physical activity or slowed movements and speech
• Feeling worthless or guilty
• Difficult thinking, concentrating or making decisions
• Thoughts of death or suicide

Treatment of Depression
• Support, ranging from discussing practical solutions and contributing stresses, to educating family members
• Healthy diet and a regular sleep schedule
• Daily exercise
• Meditation is a highly effective way of clearing/calming your head and body

• Psychotherapy, also known as taking therapies
• Love towards one another

Remember, Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one's life or the world at large; When there's life there's hope of better and Great future.
